buddhism for busy people


when the next social comes up or your friend tells you they are reading Nhat Hanh , be armed with a little information under your belt. after all, like most things - it's a numbers game:

the 3 marks of existence: buddha taught everything in the physical world, including mental activity and psychological experience include the below.
pain, impermanence and egolessness.

the 4 noble truths: buddha's first sermon after his Enlightenment centered the below, which are the foundation of buddhism.
life is frustrating and painful, suffering has a cause, the cause of suffering can be ended and finally - the way or path to end that cause of suffering (meditation).

the 5 skandhas: fully perceiving the nature of oneself is a direct way to define enlightenment. the combination of the below comprises each human's ego split into 5 categories.

form, sensation, perception, mental formations and consciousness.


the 8-fold path: buddha divided the path into three main secions - wisdom (right view & right intention), ethical conduct (right speech, right action & right livelihood) and mental discipline (right effort, right mindfulness & right concentration).

right view, right intention, right speech, right discipline, right action, right livelihood, right effort and right concentration.

the goal: nirvana
